"The average production for the 19 existing small wind turbines highlighted in the progress briefing is less than one-third of the average production projected by installers, with a range of ratios varying from 2 percent to 59 percent of estimated production."

Tax Credits & Grants

The 2009 federal stimulus package enhances the tax credit program for small wind energy systems. There is a 30% credit for the total cost of a "wind property". This includes site assessment, permits, equipment and installation. You don't have to wait for tax filing season - you can apply immediately after the system is "commissioned" for the credit. The IRS form is #5695.

Farmers and rural businesses can apply for an additional 25% grant through the REAP (formerly the 9006 program) - part of the 2007 Farm Bill. There is a lot of paperwork involved. See: REAP Grants
