Massachusetts provided grants for small wind systems. They recorded the production estimates made by dealers and installers and then
tracked the actual production over a two year period. "The average production for the 19 existing small wind turbines highlighted in the
progress briefing is less than one-third of the average production projected by installers, with a range of ratios varying from 2 percent to 59 percent of estimated production."
Tax Credits & Grants
The 2009 federal stimulus package enhances the tax credit program for small wind energy systems. There is a 30% credit for the total cost of a "wind property".
This includes site assessment, permits, equipment and installation. You don't have to wait for tax filing season - you can apply immediately after the system is
"commissioned" for the credit. The IRS form is #5695.
Farmers and rural businesses can apply for an additional 25% grant through the REAP (formerly the 9006 program) - part of the 2007 Farm Bill.
